Consultant Cardiologist with Cardiac Imaging Focus

We are inviting applications for the role of Consultant Cardiologist, specializing in cardiac imaging. This position is primarily based within our healthcare facilities.
The role encompasses all facets of specialized cardiac imaging, including cardiac MRI, cardiac CT, stress echocardiography, and transesophageal echocardiography (TOE). Candidates with experience in other sub-specialties will also be considered.
Our Cardiology department is also looking to fill a fixed-term Locum Consultant position with a focus on Heart Failure and Imaging. This presents an opportunity to adjust the job responsibilities across both roles for the ideal candidate(s).
The successful applicant will be expected to dedicate 10 Programmed Activities (average 4-hour sessions) weekly, as outlined in the provisional job plan. This will involve direct patient care, which includes prevention efforts, emergency services (including on-call duties), subspecialty sessions, ward rounds, outpatient consultations, clinical diagnostics, patient treatment, public health responsibilities, multidisciplinary meetings, and related administrative tasks.
Future adjustments to timetables may occur to accommodate the evolving needs of the Directorate, and the successful candidate may be asked to engage in additional general cardiology work, depending on their skill set, which will attract further Programmed Activities.

Working within our organization is an exciting opportunity, especially as both Poole and Royal Bournemouth Hospitals are now integrated into University Hospitals Dorset. Currently, both sites are undergoing significant development projects, with acute Cardiology services recently transitioning to one site and more elective procedures planned for the other site in the future.
This role will require work across both locations, with the majority of time spent at one site.
The successful candidate will join a dedicated and collaborative team of 19 cardiologists and one associate specialist, who work across both hospital sites.
The unit is distinguished by its strong teamwork and cohesive strategy, featuring excellent multidisciplinary team meetings in areas such as cross-sectional imaging, echocardiography, endocarditis, surgical procedures (via direct videoconference), inherited cardiac conditions, and electrophysiology/devices.
The successful candidate will embody the core values of excellence and teamwork that define our Cardiology Directorate.

Qualifications
Essential Criteria:
- GMC registration, including specialist registration for Cardiology
- Post CCT/CCST or expected within 6 months
- MRCP or equivalent
Desirable Criteria:
- Higher degree (MD/PhD)
Experience
Essential Criteria:
- Minimum of 3 years in general cardiology, including acute cardiology and CCU
- Evidence of sub-specialist training
- Proficient in all aspects of echocardiography, stress echocardiography, and TOE
Desirable Criteria:
- Experience in cross-sectional cardiac imaging (CT/MRI)
Technical Skills and Competencies
Essential Criteria:
- Participation in audits
