Position Overview

This role is pending college approval and presents a remarkable opportunity for a dedicated consultant in Medical Oncology, focusing on Sarcoma (including GISTs) and Germ Cell Tumours within Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.

The successful candidate will be engaged under the Terms and Conditions of the 2003 Consultant Contract. Applicants who have preferences for specific tumour sites or wish to explore alternative second tumour sites are encouraged to initiate discussions regarding their interests.

This is a full-time position (10 PAs), although we welcome applications from individuals seeking part-time arrangements or flexible working patterns. The job plan can be customized to align with the candidate's professional background, interests, and desired working schedule. There is also the potential for qualified candidates to assume the role of germ cell lead for the East Midlands or to include a third tumour site. Additional leadership opportunities are available for those with relevant experience.

Main Responsibilities

Pending College Approval: Sarcoma

The sarcoma teams consist of multidisciplinary professionals, including plastic, orthopaedic, and abdominal surgeons, medical and clinical oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNSs), and sarcoma physiotherapists, with access to specialized onco-psychology services. Nottingham University Hospitals hosts the East Midlands main sarcoma MDT, which reviews approximately 250 new sarcoma diagnoses annually.

Germ Cell Tumours (GCT)

The candidate will join a multidisciplinary team dedicated to treating GCT at Nottingham University Hospitals. The East Midlands GCT MDT covers five cancer networks, managing new cases each year. Patients with poor prognosis metastatic or relapsed GCT, as well as those with primary intracranial GCT, are treated at this facility. Local centres manage patients with stage 1, good, and intermediate prognosis metastatic GCT, with options for participation in clinical trials available at Nottingham University Hospitals.

About Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust

The oncology specialty serves a resident population of over four million and sees approximately 5,000 new patients annually. The service provides a comprehensive range of non-surgical oncology services, including dedicated inpatient wards and outpatient departments equipped for systemic therapy.

The oncology consultant team comprises 15 medical oncologists and 24 clinical oncologists, working collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams. The institution supports an established Medical Oncology Higher Specialist Training programme and has a strong focus on academic training and clinical fellowships.
