About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Software Engineer to join our expanding Articles team in Cardiff, as part of the BBC Group and Public Services. This is an exciting opportunity to work on high-scale systems and contribute to the development of innovative products and features.

As a Software Engineer at the BBC, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team focused on delivering high-quality software solutions. You will work collaboratively with senior engineers and team leaders, and help mentor junior team members to promote technical standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop new features and products, working closely with the team to build and support them.
  • Ensure high-quality code is delivered in line with project goals and delivery cycles, using agile methods and collaborative approaches.
  • Work with senior engineers and team leaders to promote technical standards and mentor junior team members.
  • Contribute to the development of secure, reliable, and scalable software solutions.
Requirements
  • Strong understanding of software development principles and design patterns.
  • Experience with writing automated tests and taking a TDD approach to work.
  • Ability to collaborate within the team and wider BBC to create broader solutions that benefit all.
  • Aspiration for engineering excellence, using knowledge sharing to learn from each other.
  • Experience developing on cloud-based environments like AWS is beneficial, but not essential.

Interview Process

We run virtual assessment centres on Thursday mornings for shortlisted candidates. The assessment centre consists of two elements: a live pair programming exercise and blended interview questions with two of our software engineers.
