Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Matron to join our team at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the inpatient clinical areas and nurse specialists on the University Hospital Lewisham site.

Main Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Management
    • Review and optimize the skill mix and deployment of staff within the area of responsibility.
    • Performance manage staff and conduct continuous performance reviews and appraisals.
    • Support ward/departmental Nursing Clinical Leads in managing staff absence and reporting trends in sickness absence.
  • Clinical Excellence
    • Oversee the process of continuous performance review within the allocated area of responsibility.
    • Support the Division to promote excellence in paediatric care and maintain and improve clinical standards.
  • Quality and Safety
    • Ensure that all children and their families are treated with compassion, dignity, and respect.
    • Promote best practice in the prevention of infection through ensuring a clean and safe environment.
Requirements
  • Education and Professional Qualifications
    • Registered and Practising Nurse.
    • First Degree.
    • Masters Degree or working towards.
    • Robust evidence of relevant CPD in the last 2 years.
  • Experience
    • At least 3 years' previous experience as a Gynaecology Manager/Matron.
    • Experience in budget management.
    • Business planning experience.
    • Change management experience.
    • HR management experience.
    • Child Protection experience.
    • Track record of achieving change in clinical practice and organizational practice.
    • Experience in contributing at a corporate level.
    • Experienced and competent in producing complex reports.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
  • Previous Experience
    • Previous involvement in multi-agency working across the health economy.
    • Knowledge or experience of modernization tools or techniques.
  • Skills and Abilities
    • Experienced in workforce planning.
    • Experienced in managing a complex service.
    • Experienced in using balanced scorecard or similar approach to performance management.
