RINA is seeking a Power System Design Lead to join its Engineering Team in Manchester.

As a key member of the team, you will contribute to the successful execution of engineering projects and tenders within the international T&D substation sector. Your leadership will guide and develop a skilled team of approximately 15 permanent and contract consultants.

This role focuses on project and tender engineering, encompassing the technical scope of work involved in HV substation design and construction. You will be responsible for delivering innovative solutions that meet customer needs, legislative demands, and industry standards.

Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive technical solutions for substations, including single-line diagrams, technical information, layouts, and detailed drawings, adhering to established standards, processes, and customer specifications.
  • Develop technical concepts, specifications, equipment selection, and connection materials, considering cost-effectiveness, quality, international standards, and material availability.
  • Prepare technical calculations, purchasing specifications, and schedules for all substation equipment for projects or tenders.
  • Create bill of quantities, cost estimations, deviations, and clarifications for proposed technical solutions.
  • Lead and manage large and complex EHV/HV Air & Gas Insulated Substation (AIS & GIS) proposals and projects.
  • Lead and expand the Design team, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.
Required Experience
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in a Transmission & Distribution Engineering environment with proven people management skills.
  • In-depth understanding of the Transmission & Distribution market landscape.
  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a relevant technical discipline.
  • Proven expertise in power systems design up to 132kV (preferably up to 400kV) across diverse projects for Industrial, Distribution, and Transmission networks. This includes experience in Conceptual/Feasibility Study and Design, System Studies, Protection, and Substation Design.
  • Extensive substation engineering experience within the utility sector.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislative demands and industry standards.
  • Proficiency with simulation software and electrical circuit modeling tools.
  • Familiarity with system studies such as load flow, short circuit calculation, insulation coordination; Single Line Diagrams, CT/VT calculations, Auxiliary Power Systems, and power cables.
