About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Youth Navigator to join our team at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will play a vital role in supporting vulnerable children and young people who have complex needs and safeguarding concerns.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide trauma-informed practice to individuals in the Emergency Department and signpost to members of the team for follow-up in the community as needed.
  • Offer non-clinical advice to young people, families, and carers on a wide range of subjects, promoting health and social wellbeing.
  • Maintain effective communication with the wider multidisciplinary team, including Health and Social Care, Police, Education, and Voluntary Sectors.
  • Attend relevant training to ensure competency needs of healthcare staff and others are addressed.
  • Advocate for individuals to support them in working towards their personal goals.
  • Liaise with other professionals to promote health and social wellbeing for individuals.
  • Represent the BLOSM team and promote the work of the BLOSM service within the trust.
  • Support individuals and carers to access appropriate information and support, including signposting to a range of support services.
  • Experience of discussing ideas and assessments in a professional way, supporting the individual in their best interests, communicating their thoughts and wishes.
  • Ability to work on own initiative within clearly defined policies and procedures, seeking advice as necessary from the Operations Manager.
  • Ability to focus and concentrate frequently when providing advice.
  • Maintain accurate electronic patient records and other data resources.
  • Flexibility to work within areas or departments to meet the demands of changing service needs.
  • To support other colleagues when required in line with your competencies.
Person Specification
  • 5 GCSEs including Maths and English at grade 4 or equivalent.
  • Relevant Youth Work qualifications or experience equivalent.
  • Evidence of continued role development and willingness to learn and develop.
  • Significant experience working with vulnerable children and young people who have complex needs and safeguarding concerns.
  • Computer literate with good knowledge and understanding of computer packages and databases, including Microsoft Office.
  • Substantial safeguarding experience.
  • Understanding of the principles of a trauma-informed approach to care and the impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences on young people and adults.
