Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Physiotherapist Specialist to join our team at University Hospital Southampton NHS Trust. The successful candidate will have expertise in managing patients with chronic suppurative lung disease and will be responsible for providing holistic care to meet the clinical and psychosocial needs of patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage patients with chronic suppurative lung disease, utilizing advanced airway clearance techniques, exercise, pelvic floor health, breathing pattern disorders, NIV, and palliative care.
  • Assess patient symptoms via telephone or email and triage patients appropriately, utilizing advanced clinical reasoning.
  • Lead on drug reaction assessments for nebulised therapies and provide expertise and knowledge to the wider therapy team.
  • Collaborate with the PCD clinical team to ensure adequate service provision during the working week and work closely with the current Band 7 adult PCD specialist physiotherapist to meet the changing needs of patients.
  • Travel to external clinics as required, with all necessary travel expenses met by the adult PCD service.
Requirements
  • Experience at Band 6 or 7 managing patients with chronic suppurative lung disease.
  • Expert knowledge of respiratory physiotherapy techniques.
  • Understanding and knowledge of assessing patient symptoms via telephone or email.
  • Evidence of leadership skills and experience.
  • Ability to make decisions about appropriate patient management using advanced clinical reasoning.
Desirable Skills
  • Experience in the management of patients with primary ciliary dyskinesia.
  • Screening and recruiting patients to research studies.
  • Involvement in service developments and facilitating change.
  • Experience of teaching to wider MDT, therapy teams, and students.
