Job Purpose

We are seeking a Senior Planner to join our team, responsible for delivering planning advice on planning applications and projects. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop core competencies and technical expertise, while contributing to the team's technical excellence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide specialist advice on planning applications and projects, with a focus on commercial management and client relationships.
  • Develop and refine commercial management, client relationship, and business development skills, with a focus on delivering high-quality outcomes.
  • Contribute to technical excellence in the team, supervising and mentoring junior staff as required, and maintaining and developing own technical expertise.
  • Review and direct the work of other professional staff, with a focus on ensuring the best outcome for clients.
  • Build and consolidate networks within the industry to enhance understanding and knowledge of expertise.
  • Ensure great client experience, whether internal or external, and make a positive contribution to bids and project proposals.
  • Undertake work requiring the application of principles in a wide range of contexts, demonstrating creativity in applying solutions.
  • Look to achieve continuous improvement across the services we provide to clients, through innovative approaches to ways of working, solutions, and outcomes.
  • Accountable for own budgetary, quality, safety, and timeframe targets for projects, identifying and agreeing any additional work with the Project Manager or client as appropriate.
  • Aware of and compliant with Health and Safety procedures, ensuring projects are compliant with these.
  • Elishes own milestones, deadlines, and team objectives, delegating responsibility to ensure projects are completed in a timely and cost-effective way.
  • Liaises with contractors, suppliers, and other third parties involved in projects, ensuring both client and Lanpro interests are safeguarded.
Qualifications and Experience
  • An RTPI-accredited degree or Masters in a related discipline.
  • Preferably a chartered member of the Royal Town Planning Institute or working towards it.
  • Ideally at least two years post-qualification experience in a relevant role.
  • Have spent at least two years working in the planning industry in either the public or private sectors.
Essential Knowledge and Skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong client liaison skills.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Project management skills.
  • Strong report writing skills and experience of delivering recommendations.
  • Strong understanding of the UK planning process.
