About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Subject Matter Expert (SME) to join our team at HCLTech's Smart Meter Test Lab in Manchester. This is a key role within our operations team, where you will play multiple roles of Project Management, Development lead, and Smart meter SME.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in Smart metering, Project Management, and Web application development. You should be a results-driven, effective thinker with excellent stakeholder management and problem-solving skills, with an eye for continuous improvement strategies and innovation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the Smart Meter SME in our client's smart meter test lab.
  • Responsible for E2E Smart meter Lab operations as a Triage/Technical Specialist.
  • Design, develop, test, and manage the deployment of integrated lab management solutions on AWS cloud.
  • Co-ordinate with LAB operations team, development team, and HCLTech's management team to ensure we adhere to all the defined process and policies as per HCLTech and Client agreement.
  • Network Management by designing the Lab Network, handling O&M tasks, configuring security patch upgrades for network switches, creating VPN profiles, and setting up Firewall rules to ensure network security.
  • Quickly adapt the needs of the organization and new technologies with technical experience and business analysis skills.
  • Manage and review the process/documentation, customer reports as per contract and represent HCLTech in all customer meetings both technical and management meetings.
  • Support the customer innovation team and engage in continuous improvement programs.
  • Establish proof of concept and drive business expansion initiatives.
  • Steering a pivotal customer program focused on 4G CH&N Hubs System Integration Testing (SIT) and User Integration Testing (UIT) involving multiple testing parties.
  • Collaborate with communication service providers to integrate their 3G/4G (NB-IoT) solutions with smart meters and ensure interoperability with IEEE ZigBee HAN.
  • Oversee and support System Integration Testing (SIT), User Integration Testing (UIT), and defect triaging, including in-depth technical issue resolution.
  • Contribute to the evolution of the Smart Meter Lab.
  • Maintain the lab radio environment according to testing needs and ensure noise levels remain within acceptable thresholds.
  • Liaise with clients to analyse business requirements and ensure alignment with Great Britain Companion Specification & Smart Energy Code standards.
  • Prepare knowledge maps and manage knowledge transitions within the team.
Required Skills and Expertise
  • Comprehensive knowledge of WAN, HAN, Zigbee, mesh networks, Great Britain Smart Specifications, and Smart Energy Code.
  • Experienced in Project Management of UK-wide Smart Metering industry.
  • Familiarity with smart metering standards and protocols, UK-wide smart meter industry practices, network operations, and NB-IoT implementation.
  • Should have the experience in handling the Development projects and Testing life cycle management, Agile-SCRUM, AWS, Django, Data bases, automation-Selenium/Robot Framework.
  • Knowledge on technologies like React, JavaScript, jQuery, Jenkins, GitHub, and Kubernetes with Dockers.
  • Hands-On on Python development projects and shell scripting, with exposure to automation testing.
  • Expertise in conducting meticulous testing of Smart Electricity Meters and Communication Hub Antenna Structures (CHAS) across a range of frequencies and bands for leading meter manufacturers.
  • Skills in calibrating the Noise Lab setup and proficiently utilizes cutting-edge tools such as the Keysight Network Analyzer E5072A, Rohde & Schwarz Signal Analyzer, RF & Power Relays, linear power suppliers, and self-designed automated test scripts.
  • Excel in operating the sophisticated Smart RF Distribution Antenna System (DAS) from vendor.
  • Experienced in configuration network Cisco and TP-Link switches, setting up Firewall rules with FPR 1010 and Barracuda F180 and creating VPN profiles.
  • Proficient of IP network infrastructure planning and management.
  • AWS certification and experience managing resources and deploying solutions on AWS.
  • Practical experience with AWS services, architectural principles, and the AWS Management Console.
  • Proven experience in managing test teams and overseeing test labs for radio product release validation.
  • Experience in managing and running test labs for smart meters and the wireless industry.
  • Skills in test management, log investigation, issue debugging, and bug reporting.
  • Hands-on experience in configuring and testing LTE/5G RAN & NB IoT products for 3GPP compliance.
  • In-depth knowledge of 4G/LTE architecture and protocols, especially Layer-2 and Layer-3 procedures.
  • Proficient with signal generators, signal analysers, spectrum analysers, and RF noise measurement.
  • Deep expertise in radio product validation, feature validation, system integration, and performance analysis.
  • Proficient in 3GPP & IEEE standards, mesh networking, and ZigBee protocol.
  • Strong understanding of 5G NR and O-RAN technologies, including protocols such as SDAP, RRC, RLC, MAC, PHY, and Ethernet/IP.
  • Familiarity with 5G SA & NSA architecture, frame structures, concepts, and procedures.
  • Experience with radio products and platforms from Qualcomm, Nokia, Samsung, Toshiba, EDMI, and Ericsson.
  • Proficient with tools such as QXDM, QCAT, protocol analysers, traffic generators, multi-UE simulators, Silicon Labs – Simplicity Studio, Ubiqua - Protocol Analyzer, XCAL/XCAP, Vivi TM-500, DMTS-9200/9400, Wireshark, Putty, ALM, Bugzilla, and Docker.
Work Environment
  • This role requires onsite presence with no work-from-home options.
  • Work hours are flexible within an 8.5-hour window between 8 AM and 6 PM.
