About the Role

The University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust is seeking a highly organized and flexible individual to join our team as a Newborn Hearing Screener. This is a part-time position that requires working 24 hours per week, with 4 shifts of 6 hours each.

Key Responsibilities
  • Identify all newborn babies who require screening by liaising with maternity staff and utilizing the computerized database.
  • Proactively keep parents, colleagues, and other healthcare professionals informed of all relevant and appropriate information with regard to Trust and National NHSP protocols.
  • Carry out the hearing screening of newborn babies within the postnatal wards, neonatal units, and community clinics, using agreed protocols and designated equipment.
  • Accurately record clinical and test data using the computerized database.
  • Promote a professional, welcoming, and caring environment with a family-friendly approach to care.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of the babies and their families and ensure the dignity, privacy, and individuality of babies and their families are respected at all times.
  • Ensure the safety and security of equipment at all times. Perform quality control checks according to the protocols and report any problems or faults with the equipment to the NHSP manager at the earliest opportunity.
  • Be familiar with and adhere to all local Health and Safety guidance.
  • Maintain an awareness of child protection issues and adhere to local procedures regarding raising any concerns.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of procedures and policies relevant to this post and undertake continuing professional development (CPD).

  • Able to prioritize and manage own workload without supervision for considerable periods.
  • Flexible to meet the needs of the service.
  • Able to communicate clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing.
  • Experience of using computers, email, and the internet.
