The National Management Centre (NMC) is an integral part of Police Digital Service, dedicated to providing oversight and management of information risks within policing. It operates continuously to offer threat detection and response capabilities for digital services, both preemptively and reactively during cyber incidents. This enables stakeholders to comprehend and proactively address risks across the technological landscape at both national and local levels.

Responsibilities of the NMC Cyber Threat Analyst include:

  • Conducting initial assessments of alerts - evaluation and detection
  • Verifying false positives
  • Gathering incident data and providing feedback on potential gaps or tuning opportunities in platform content
  • Assessing incident severity based on thorough analysis
  • Escalating potential incidents to clients or Senior Cyber Threat Analysts/CIMT Team as necessary
  • Performing trend analysis of events across different forces for regular presentations
  • Contributing continuously to the enhancement and optimization of content
  • Engaging in regular performance discussions with management
  • Taking a proactive stance on personal development and coaching discussions to foster growth for oneself and others.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitoring and triaging alerts across NMC Technologies.
  • Responsible for the initial evaluation of alerts by analyzing all available data in the context of the alert, adhering to guidance documentation as necessary.
  • Engaging relevant stakeholders, such as clients, Senior Cyber Threat Analysts, or the Cyber Incident Management Team, after completing alert assessments.
  • Ensuring initial engagement with national police forces when relevant.
  • Maintaining situational awareness across national police forces, including changes, problems, incidents, network architecture, and critical asset lists.
  • Possessing a comprehensive understanding of all NMC services and their interoperability.

Qualifications for Success in this Role

Essential:

  • Ability to obtain SC and NPPV3 level clearances
  • Experience in a dynamic, operational team environment
  • Experience in a client-facing role
  • Familiarity with various security methodologies and processes
  • Knowledge of commonly used Cyber Security tools and products
  • Understanding of common Internet protocols and applications
  • Experience with IP networks and their key components
  • A genuine passion for working in Cyber Security

Desirable Experience

  • Foundation or Higher Degree in a relevant field, along with evidence of self-directed learning or practical experience

Working Arrangements

At the NMC, we offer hybrid working arrangements, allowing you to benefit from both in-person team collaboration and remote work. This role operates on a shift-based schedule, with a 24/7 rotation throughout the year. Shift patterns will be required (20% shift allowance applies).

All applicants must be eligible for NPPV3 and SC clearances. Successful candidates will need to have NPPV3 clearance approved before commencing employment with Police Digital Service.
