Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Section Manager, your role as a Field Mechanical Technician will encompass the following duties:
- Addressing equipment malfunctions promptly to ensure production continuity, with a focus on implementing lasting solutions following temporary fixes.
- Executing urgent repair tasks efficiently on all operational machinery.
- Managing small-scale projects with a proactive and practical approach.
- Adopting a cost-effective mindset towards maintenance tasks and coordinating with external contractors and suppliers during their visits.
- Engaging in root cause analysis to eliminate recurring issues.
- Contributing to the ongoing enhancement of the engineering department through your insights and experiences.
- Collaborating on risk assessments and method statements, aiding in the development of safe operational procedures for repairs.
- Upholding and promoting Health & Safety regulations, adhering to all company protocols.
- Identifying and reporting unsafe conditions and practices through established company channels.
- Utilizing the computerized maintenance management system to document all tasks, including fault descriptions, parts utilized, and repairs performed, while employing application-based inspection protocols.
Ideal Candidate Profile
The perfect candidate for the Field Mechanical Technician position will be self-driven, enthusiastic, and capable of working independently. You should possess proven experience in an industrial or factory setting as a Mobile Technician. Suitable candidates will:
- Hold a recognized apprenticeship (preferably at a higher level).
- Have ONC/HNC qualifications (desirable but not mandatory).
- Exhibit a robust practical background in mechanical systems, particularly in heavy industry, including conveyors, drive systems, motors, belts, pumps, gearboxes, crushers, and vibratory screens.
- Demonstrate welding and fabrication skills to a high standard and be proficient in bearing removal and installation.
- Possess strong fault-finding skills to identify issues and recommend suitable actions.
- Be capable of performing urgent repairs on all production machinery efficiently.
- Be IT literate, with the ability to navigate PCs, common software applications, and company systems.
- Be competent in using application-based inspection protocols.
- Have the ability to assess SHE risks associated with work activities and manage those risks effectively.
- Be knowledgeable about site-specific SHE procedures and safe working practices.
Candidates for the Field Mechanical Technician role should possess CPC certification or be willing to undergo training.
