GSL Education is seeking dedicated Learning Support Assistants to provide assistance to children exhibiting challenging behaviors stemming from social, emotional, and mental health difficulties. You will play a crucial role in identifying risks and addressing the needs of children who may have experienced adverse childhood situations, while collaborating with a network of senior staff when necessary.

You will become part of a supportive, dynamic, and innovative team. Working within a setting focused on children's mental health, trauma, and neurodiversity can be demanding, but together we will explore and clarify the best paths for your career.

A genuine enthusiasm for facilitating the learning of young individuals with SEMH through diverse creative, visual, practical, and academic methods is essential.

The ideal candidates are graduates in social sciences, youth studies, psychology, criminology, or related fields, although non-graduates with a sincere commitment, compassion, and enthusiasm will also be considered.

Given the vulnerability of some children, you may find that they share personal experiences with you. Your response to such disclosures must align with the Keeping Children Safe in Education policy, and we are here to support you in understanding these guidelines. Being prepared to listen to your students as they express their feelings of disappointment in the adult world is vital for building trust before focusing on their educational progress.

As a Learning Support Assistant in this role, you will have the chance to gain valuable experience by working closely with various therapists, enhancing your knowledge and skills, which is particularly beneficial if you aspire to become a psychotherapist in the arts or speech and language fields.

This position also presents an excellent opportunity for those looking to pursue careers as Occupational Therapists, Educational Psychologists, or Speech and Language Therapists.

Many children and young people with special educational needs face challenges such as marginalization, trauma, dysfunctional family dynamics, and low educational achievement. They often encounter numerous barriers in life and are at a higher risk of negative outcomes. Your role will be pivotal in providing stability and equipping these children with the tools they need to feel safe, secure, empowered, and confident in their ability to succeed.
