Job Overview

We are excited to announce an opportunity for a Trainee Plumbing Technician to become a part of our Estates Team at Bedfordshire Hospitals. In this role, you will assist in the proactive maintenance and repair of mechanical systems. Additionally, you will attend educational sessions at a local college once a week to enhance your knowledge in Mechanical Engineering.

This apprenticeship will focus on the following skill set - Level 3 Installation and Maintenance of Plumbing systems.

Compensation

The starting salary for this apprenticeship is as follows:

Band 3 - Year 1 Minimum, Year 2 Incremental, Year 3 Maximum step point.

Your apprentice wage will increase annually or upon successful completion of specific stages.

The position entails a contract of hours per week on an initial 48 Month Fixed Term Contract, along with Annual Leave and NHS pension benefits.

Key Responsibilities

Job Duties

1. Learn to identify, diagnose, and rectify faults, as well as perform repairs and planned maintenance on mechanical services, equipment, and systems including but not limited to heating systems, air conditioning, water, and drainage systems.

2. Gain knowledge of reactive and planned maintenance processes for complex building engineering services related to the core skills of the position.

3. Complete all mandatory training as required.

4. Learn about existing and new installations, commissioning, and testing of new work associated with core skills. Assist team members with other skill sets as needed.

5. Learn to collaborate and communicate with clinical staff to coordinate equipment shutdowns and maintenance.

6. Understand how to work safely on heating, cooling, and water services, ensuring compliance with all statutory regulations and health and safety legislation, and work towards becoming an appointed Competent Person for Trust properties.

7. Learn to conduct periodic checks, servicing, and testing of equipment in line with planned maintenance schedules.

  • GCSE qualifications in Maths, English, and Science at Grade 5 (C) or above, or equivalent.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of building services.
