Data Governance Manager

The role of Data Governance Manager is a critical one, requiring a deep understanding of data protection and governance principles. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and implementing practical data governance solutions that support organisational needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Data Protection and Governance: Develop and implement data protection policies and procedures that ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations, including the UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018.
  • Data Sharing and Agreements: Draft, review, and assure data sharing agreements and memoranda of understanding, ensuring that they meet organisational requirements and comply with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Project Support: Provide advice and guidance on data governance and compliance matters to various projects across the organisation, ensuring that they meet relevant policies and standards.
  • Policies and Procedures: Work with business areas to develop and implement policies, procedures, and standards related to data governance and compliance.
  • User Education and Training: Develop and deliver training sessions to educate users on data governance and compliance policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders, including business areas, to ensure that data governance and compliance requirements are met.
Requirements
  • Sound Knowledge and Understanding: Possess a sound knowledge and understanding of data protection, particularly of the data sharing components of UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
  • Experience in Data Sharing: Have experience in drafting, reviewing, or assuring data sharing agreements and memoranda of understanding.
  • Project Management: Be able to advise on various projects in different stages of development, ensuring compliance with relevant policies and standards.
  • Business Area Collaboration: Work with business areas to implement and continually improve policies, procedures, and standards related to data governance and compliance.
  • User Education: Ensure that users of data understand their responsibilities, departmental policy, relevant procedures, and standards.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Possess strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to deliver robust advice confidently and communicate with a range of stakeholders in a clear, honest, and enthusiastic way.
  • Previous Experience: Have previous experience of working for a government department.
  • Legal Knowledge: Possess confidence with relevant legal subject matter, including reviewing and applying a legislative framework to a process.
  • Social Security Knowledge: Have knowledge of or experience with the delivery of social security in England and Wales.
