Position Overview

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital King's Lynn NHS Foundation Trust is inviting applications for the role of Consultant General Surgeon on a locum basis.

The selected candidate will deliver both benign general surgical and upper gastrointestinal surgical services to the local community. This role is pivotal in collaborating with fellow professionals to enhance the general surgical services offered. The consultant will engage in both inpatient and outpatient care, sharing responsibilities in the on-call rota.

This position is newly established to bolster the General Surgery service. Comprehensive support and ancillary services are readily available. The post-holder will have access to dedicated office space equipped with a computer, IT resources, and medical secretarial assistance.

Informal visits and inquiries are encouraged.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver a general surgical service, including elective procedures and emergency cover on a 1 in 9 on-call basis.
  • Provide elective surgical services.
  • Maintain ongoing responsibility for patient care and the financial management of the department.
  • Undertake administrative tasks associated with these responsibilities.
  • Offer outpatient services for new referrals and ongoing patient management.
  • Commit to an on-call schedule of 1:9.

Qualifications

Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
  • FRCS or equivalent medical qualification.

Desirable

  • MD, PhD, or evidence of equivalent training and experience.

Entry Criteria

Essential

  • Full Registration and a license to practice with the General Medical Council.
  • Training and interest in elective and emergency general surgery.
  • Ability to independently manage emergency care for both pediatric and adult patients.
  • A broad range of clinical skills and experience in the specialty.
  • Meet the criteria outlined in the Specialist generic capabilities framework.

Desirable

  • GI endoscopy skills.
  • Entry on GMC Specialist Register; eligibility for entry on Register or within six months of obtaining Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR) at the time of interview.
