Farm Manager Job Description

Job Summary:

HMP East Sutton Park is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Farm Manager to lead our award-winning Farms & Gardens Team. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the management of the farm and gardens, as well as the training and assessing of prisoners in vocational qualifications and employability skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise a team of four instructors and ensure good animal husbandry procedures are in place.
  • Review land-based policies, monitor expenditure and income, and maintain regular maintenance of machinery.
  • Advise the senior leadership team on land-based related issues and contribute to the delivery of the prison's business plans and objectives.
  • Line manage staff within the area and ensure the team is working towards the prison's goals.

Requirements:

  • Relevant Agriculture or Horticulture qualifications to at least a level 4.
  • Occupational Safety and Health Certificate (IOSH) or willingness to work towards this qualification within the first two years of service.

About the Role:

The Farm Manager will play a crucial role in the rehabilitation of prisoners by providing them with valuable skills and experience in agriculture and horticulture. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the farm and gardens are run efficiently and effectively, while also providing a safe and supportive environment for prisoners to learn and develop.
