An exceptional opportunity has emerged within the Swansea Bay UHB School Nursing and Looked After Children service for a Specialist Nurse to become a vital member of the Looked After Children team. The successful candidate will be a registered nurse with a strong commitment to advancing the Looked After Children agenda in accordance with our statutory obligations.
The Specialist Nurse will assist the lead nurse in driving the professional agenda and will possess outstanding leadership, communication, and decision-making abilities. Upholding the core values of Swansea Bay University Health Board—Caring for Each Other, Working Together, and Always Improving—is essential while ensuring that services are delivered in alignment with children's rights. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and have a background in collaborating with multi-agency partners.
Key Responsibilities
The Specialist Nurse will deliver expert care, guidance, and leadership, taking charge of a specialized nursing service for Looked After Children. This role requires advanced clinical knowledge and experience, enabling the nurse to:
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate evidence-based nursing care.
- Provide expert clinical advice and practice.
- Work independently and manage their own caseload as a lead specialist.
- Deliver specialized education and training to staff members.
- Lead and supervise a team of specialist nurses.
- Collaborate effectively with clinical colleagues to enhance service delivery and care quality.
- Drive the development and planning of clinical services within the specialty.
- Exemplify the Health Board's values and encourage others to do the same.
- Conduct clinical activities, including clinics, ward-based work, and consultations.
- Engage in professional activities such as audits, continuing professional development, teaching, research, and administrative tasks.

Qualifications and Experience
Essential:
- Registered Nurse with current NMC Registration.
- Master's Degree or equivalent experience in a specialized field.
- Expert-level knowledge in clinical specialty.
