Job Summary:

Ford & Slater Limited, a leading family-run business and one of the UK's largest DAF Truck dealers, is seeking an experienced HGV Technician/Shift Supervisor to join their team at their Chesterfield depot.

About the Role:

As an HGV Technician/Shift Supervisor, you will be responsible for managing a team of HGV Technicians, ensuring workshop activities are compliant with Health and Safety legislation, and allocating work to the Workshop. You will also be responsible for servicing and maintaining a wide variety of trucks and vehicles, diagnosing faults, and carrying out mechanical and electrical repairs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a team of HGV Technicians
  • Ensure workshop activities are compliant with Health and Safety legislation
  • Allocate work to the Workshop and complete job cards
  • Servicing and maintaining a wide variety of trucks and vehicles
  • Fault diagnostics
  • Carry out safety inspections and prepare vehicles for MOTs
  • Mechanical and electrical repairs
  • Ensure repairs are carried out according to manufacturers procedures and in a safe and responsible manner
  • Road test vehicle when required, subject to licence restrictions
  • Attend any technical or development training that is made available

Working Hours:

Alternating weeks, Monday to Friday: 6am-3pm / 1pm-10pm

Requirements:

  • Previous Workshop Supervisor experience working as a Technician/Mechanic within the HGV, Commercial Vehicle, LGV, PSV, Heavy Plant, Car or an associated sector
  • Ideally have served a recognised apprenticeship or training programme
  • Qualified to Level 3 (C&G, NVQ or equivalent) in Commercial Vehicle Maintenance and Repair
  • Excellent technical knowledge ensuring maintenance and repairs are carried out to manufacturers procedures
  • Sound knowledge to accurately diagnose faults
  • Skills to follow company processes for completing all paperwork including accurate completion of job cards and service records
  • General level of computer literacy
  • Full UK driving licence
