To be eligible for the clinician scientist fellowship, you must...
- Have successfully completed a PhD or equivalent
- Possess skills and expertise relevant to the 'transition to independence' career stage
- Demonstrate professional growth and productivity in prior roles
- Outline distinctive research plans that differ from those of your current group leaders or sponsors
- Plan to remain clinically active during or after the fellowship period
No age or postdoctoral experience limitations apply. You must have completed your PhD or equivalent prior to the commencement of the fellowship.
Medical and Dental GraduatesIf you are a graduate in medicine or dentistry, you should hold a specialty registrar, consultant status, or a similar level in general practice.
If your specialty training is not yet complete, ensure you have a plan in place and have consulted your deanery.
Non-Medical Healthcare ProfessionalsFor non-medical healthcare professionals, the completion of professional training is essential.
VeterinariansIf you are a veterinarian, you must be a registered vet and a member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. Your research project must relate to human health.
International CandidatesWe welcome applicants from all nationalities, including those outside the UK. However, the fellowship must be hosted by a research institution based in the UK.
Registration with a regulatory body such as the General Medical Council or the Health and Care Professions Council is required or should be arranged before the fellowship begins.
Exclusions- Previously applied for this MRC fellowship in the last year
- Applied for this MRC fellowship twice before
- Applied for another UKRI fellowship currently under assessment
- Applied for an MRC new investigator research grant currently under assessment
- Previously held an MRC new investigator research grant
- Held a comparable intermediate fellowship from any organization
Holding a salaried position concurrently with a fellowship is not permitted. If offered a fellowship, you may need to transition to a proleptic appointment.
If you wish to retain your current position alongside research funding, consider alternative options.
