Job Summary

The Education Welfare Service at Stockport Council is seeking enthusiastic and professional individuals to support the local authority's statutory duties relating to school attendance and education access.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide advice, support, and guidance to families, schools, and other Council services about school attendance and education access.
  • Work across or support other areas of the service's duties where needed, providing a great opportunity for the successful applicants to gain experience and develop skills/knowledge across a range of areas.
  • Carry out termly attendance meetings for schools within your geographical area.
  • Provide communication and support for schools and Family Hubs, including running training and attending meetings.
  • Complete initial assessments for children whose families are not engaging with the support schools are offering.
  • Complete CME casework for children within your geographical area.
  • Represent the local authority in the statutory review process, making sure that appropriate questions are asked in relation to exclusion decisions and practice.
  • Work with schools and PRUs to support pupils' attendance within the statutory guidance of Working together to improve attendance.

Requirements

  • A 'can do' approach and significant experience of engaging with and providing support and advice to young people and their families.
  • Particular skills in negotiating and advocating on behalf of others.
  • Experience of multi-agency and partnership working, ideally within a school, education, or local authority setting.
