Position Overview:

An exciting opportunity has emerged within our technical division at Lewis Garner Consulting.

The Quality Assurance Manager for Raw Materials is tasked with ensuring that all raw materials and their associated supply chains are properly vetted for use by the organization through comprehensive risk assessments, ongoing monitoring, verification, and continuous evaluation. In this role, you will serve as a vital technical liaison with our supplier network, fostering collaborative relationships. You will be responsible for ensuring that all necessary documentation and evidence are in place to comply with due diligence requirements, as well as customer, regulatory, and third-party standards concerning safety, quality, legality, and authenticity of raw materials and their supply chains.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain an updated list of approved raw materials and supply chains.
  • Oversee a live database of specifications for all raw materials and packaging.
  • Conduct regular reviews and approvals of raw material and packaging specifications.
  • Perform risk assessments for new materials and supply chains, following approval through the New Product Development process and interim evaluations by the Raw Materials Assurance Manager.
  • Establish intake acceptance criteria for raw materials.
  • Manage the schedule for raw material micro/compositional analysis, review results, and implement corrective actions for any out-of-specification findings.
  • Evaluate raw material replacements to ensure compliance with customer specifications, policies, and standards.
  • Provide daily guidance on raw material shelf-life extension actions.
  • Engage in assessments to uphold legality, safety, quality, and authenticity.
  • Handle day-to-day inquiries related to live materials and supply chains.
  • Supply raw material and supply chain data during audits, challenges, and crisis situations.
  • Initiate, coordinate, and resolve non-conformance investigations with suppliers, including site visits when necessary.
  • Maintain due diligence records to ensure compliance with raw material and supply chain assurance policies.
  • Approve packaging compliance and maintain relevant records.
  • Complete timely traceability challenges back to suppliers.
  • Monitor emerging issues that may affect materials utilized by the organization.
  • Maintain a program for vulnerability and integrity assessments and mitigations.
  • Assess integrity status and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Conduct intake inspections of raw materials in the absence of Intake Quality Assurance personnel.
  • Authorize high-risk intake checks, such as Certificates of Analysis verification.
  • Provide supplier data to facilitate the export documentation process.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in a quality role within the food manufacturing sector.
  • In-depth knowledge of various raw materials and food manufacturing processes, with a solid understanding of fundamental principles.
  • Familiarity with food legislation, BRCGS standards, and customer requirements.
  • Understanding of food defense and its relevance to raw materials, with the potential to significantly contribute to this initiative.
  • Proficiency in IT applications, including Windows 365 and ERP systems such as Sanderson Unity, as well as customer platforms.
