Job Title: SEN Tutor

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate SEN Tutor to join our team at HMP Northumberland. As a SEN Tutor, you will play a vital role in supporting prisoners with diverse needs to achieve their full potential and reintegrate into the community without re-offending.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Empower prisoners by providing opportunities for skills development and competency building.
  • Support prisoners with complex needs who require additional support or advanced learning programs.
  • Collaborate with the Neurodiversity Support Manager and Project Leader to improve the quality of provision for prisoners with neurodiverse needs.
  • Liaise with other departments to ensure all learners with neurodiverse needs are supported in developing self-confidence, independence, and improving their knowledge and skills.
About the Role:

As a SEN Tutor, you will be responsible for ensuring the training and supervision of prisoners, achieving good or above in un-announced lesson observations, and taking an active part in ensuring the CFOE project runs smoothly each day. You will also be responsible for promoting aspects of Personal Development relevant to neurodiverse learners and ensuring the identified number of learners are retained and achieve recognized City & Guilds qualifications.

Requirements:
  • Full teaching qualification (Minimum of CTLLS)
  • A minimum of two years of qualified teaching experience
  • A good understanding of the Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) code of practice
  • Recognized Level 3 qualification or above in an identified subject and professional experience focusing on a particular learning difficulty, such as dyslexia or autism
  • An interest in the rehabilitation and resettlement of offenders
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all times through different mediums, including spoken and written communication
  • Ability to manage confrontation and challenging behavior
  • Patience, understanding, and empathy with learners
  • A positive, energetic, and enthusiastic outlook
