Exeter, Devon, United Kingdom Long-term Teachers Ltd Full time

Are you seeking a fulfilling position where your commitment and resilience can truly impact lives? We present an exceptional opportunity for a Learning Support Assistant at a distinguished special educational needs institution, dedicated to providing outstanding education and care for boys facing social, emotional, and mental health challenges.

Role Overview:

This position is situated within a small, all-boys educational environment, where you will assist students from KS2 to KS4. As a learning support assistant, your collaboration with the classroom teacher will focus on enhancing both the academic progress and emotional wellbeing of the students. The young individuals you will support may have encountered trauma, possess ADHD, autism, or other intricate needs, making resilience an essential attribute for this role.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

The perfect candidate for this role must demonstrate exceptional resilience and a proactive attitude. You will engage with students who exhibit challenging behavioral needs and require a steady, supportive presence in their lives. This position transcends mere academic support; it involves being a consistent, positive influence for these young individuals who may not have had the most favorable beginnings.

Essential Qualities:

  • Resilience: Possess the strength and determination to navigate challenging situations with composure and effectiveness.
  • Relational Skills: Cultivate strong, trusting relationships with students to foster their development.
  • Effective Behavior Management: Uphold a positive and controlled classroom atmosphere.
  • Strong Work Ethic: Be ready to engage fully with students, supervising them throughout the day, including during lunch.
  • Sense of Humor: A light-hearted approach can often facilitate rapport and ease difficult moments.
  • Boundary Setting: Establish and maintain clear, consistent boundaries with students.
  • Adaptability: Be prepared to adjust to changes at short notice and manage unexpected situations with ease.
What We Provide:

Our institution is dedicated to supporting the wellbeing of all staff members. You will receive comprehensive training and ongoing support, including daily safeguarding meetings and access to counseling services. You will be part of a close-knit, friendly, and supportive team that values collaboration and mutual assistance.

While prior experience in education is desirable, it is not mandatory. A background in care settings can offer a strong foundation for success in this role. The working schedule is Monday to Friday, during term time only.

If you possess the resilience, dedication, and passion to make a significant difference in the lives of young individuals with SEMH needs, we encourage you to consider this opportunity.
