Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Regulatory Services Officer to join our team at Hays Specialist Recruitment Limited. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for carrying out a range of complex environmental health duties, including taking lead responsibility for statutory functions involving projects, inspection programmes, and major or complex investigations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Undertake a range of complex Regulatory Services duties, including supervising other staff members and regional coordination work.
  • Take a lead responsibility for undertaking statutory functions involving projects, inspection programmes, and major or complex investigations.
  • Carry out follow-up visits and enquiries within relevant premises as required.
  • Supervise and/or assist colleagues both within the team and across the organisation, including the allocation and management of cases.
  • Undertake a range of complex 'out of hours' inspection and enforcement duties, including evenings and weekends in accordance with contracted hours and as required.
  • Carry out formal actions in relation to offences, breaches of conditions, and other specific requirements, to include issuing enforcement notices, Fixed Penalty Notices, and institution of legal proceedings.
  • Respond to and investigate complex Regulatory Services complaints and enquiries from the public and businesses.
  • Contribute to developing and maintaining effective relationships with partners and other external bodies.
  • Support in the development of a policy framework and enforcement protocols for key activities within Regulatory Services under the direction of the Regulatory Services Manager and to deliver services within the framework.
  • Act as a source of advice and guidance in relation to Regulatory Services and related matters, including advice and guidance to the public, businesses, and other members of staff.
  • Maintain a good working knowledge of relevant legislation.
Requirements
  • An environmental health, public health, environmental science degree approved by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH), or completion of an environmental health practitioner degree apprenticeship scheme.
  • Experience working in an environmental health/regulatory services project management environment.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulatory services legislation, relevant investigation procedures, and knowledge of national, regional, and local policies regarding regulatory service issues.
  • Experience working on investigations.
  • Experience of applying national/ regional/local policies to regulatory service work.
  • Experience of using a relevant database for recording and managing work.
