Position Overview

The role of the Mechanical Technician is crucial in ensuring a secure and pleasant atmosphere for patients, personnel, and visitors.

This position is responsible for maintaining all vital services that support clinical departments in their mission to care for patients while adhering to all relevant regulations.

Key Responsibilities

The Mechanical Technician will collaborate with a team to guarantee that mechanical, electrical, and structural systems are upheld to a high standard, thereby assisting clinical service departments in their primary objective of patient care.

The selected candidate will aid the operational management team with the daily engineering maintenance of systems such as boilers, steam systems, medical gases, heating, hot water, and building infrastructure. Flexibility in shift coverage and participation in an on-call schedule is required.

Hywel Dda University Health Board is responsible for planning and delivering NHS healthcare services for the communities in its region. Our dedicated workforce of 11,000 provides a wide range of services, including primary, community, in-hospital, mental health, and learning disabilities care for approximately 384,000 individuals.

Qualifications & Knowledge

Essential

  • Completion of a relevant apprenticeship and possession of HNC or HND or equivalent experience
  • Thorough understanding of core mechanical trade and familiarity with related fields such as electrical and gas
  • Knowledge of asbestos safety protocols and procedures
  • Authorized through training and/or experience to perform statutory tasks, including Gas Safe regulations
  • Familiarity with the Health Board's Fire Safety Policy

Desirable

  • Understanding of relevant Health Technical Memoranda and registration with Gas Safe / Oftec

Experience

Essential

  • Completion of a structured training program and a time-served apprenticeship
  • Solid knowledge of low-pressure hot water systems, pneumatic systems, hydraulic systems, and building management systems

Desirable

  • Experience in hospital engineering

  • Welsh Speaker (Level 1)
