Job Title: Supervisor

We're seeking a skilled Supervisor to join our Transportation team in Yeovil, supporting Somerset County Council's road network. As a Supervisor, you'll be working within the Reactive Works team, supporting them to deliver reactive works elements of highways maintenance activities on the Somerset Highways Term Service Contract. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting the Reactive Works Manager in programming, managing, and delivering routine and severe weather services, managing performance, training, and development in accordance with business needs
  • Daily allocation and supervision of works and resources ensuring compliance with program and the maintenance requirement plan, helping with emergency response, organising remedial repairs, undertaking site inductions, briefings, toolbox talks, and maintaining records relating to these
  • Actively promoting health and safety in the workplace, setting a good example to other employees and ensuring awareness of and compliance with general health and safety responsibilities as set out in the health and safety management system (SHEMS)
  • Understanding and implementing the Somerset IMS so teams are following processes and procedures
  • Liaising with the client, members of the public, and other key stakeholders including the emergency services where required, communicating with the Fleet/Transport Manager checking maintenance of vehicles and plant is up to date

This role is ideal for someone with experience working within the highways industry, including knowledge of network operations and scheme delivery. You'll need to hold an SSSTS or higher, be able to drive, and hold a full driving license. We're looking for someone who can lead and motivate teams successfully and communicate with a range of stakeholders.
