Job Overview

Alternative Heat Ltd is a prominent provider of biomass heating solutions and off-site prefabricated Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) services. To enhance our service and maintenance team, we are currently seeking a full-time Senior Field Service Engineer.

This position will primarily operate from our Inverness office, with the expectation that the candidate will travel to various sites daily. The majority of work will be conducted within the Highlands of Scotland, servicing a diverse range of prestigious Local Authorities.

Position Summary:

We are in search of a committed and highly proficient Senior Field Service Engineer who is eager to advance in the Biomass sector. This is a remarkable opportunity for a technically adept individual with a solid foundation in Commercial Plumbing & Heating and/or the Commercial Electrical Industry. The company will provide specific training related to biomass systems. The ideal candidate will exhibit a strong work ethic and a genuine desire to develop within our innovative organization.

As a Senior Field Service Engineer, your responsibilities will include the ongoing planned and reactive maintenance, daily repairs, and ensuring that commercial biomass heating installations are maintained in accordance with legislative and contractual standards. Your role will involve a variety of tasks aimed at ensuring the optimal performance and reliability of our systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform planned and reactive maintenance tasks on commercial heating systems, including pumps, control valves, pressurization units, and associated mechanical/electrical services, including control systems, fuel stores, and augers.
  • Quickly transition into the Biomass sector through tailored training courses and on-site learning workshops relevant to the systems being serviced.
  • Respond promptly to breakdowns and equipment failures, diagnosing issues and implementing repairs using your engineering expertise to minimize downtime.
  • Conduct servicing tasks to a high standard, ensuring compliance with legislative and contractual obligations.
  • Maintain accurate records of all work performed on-site using company-provided tablets and cloud-based asset management software.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service, engaging with client representatives on-site and fostering strong relationships with key members of the client's team.
  • Collaborate with internal team members and other departments to ensure seamless operations.

Essential Qualifications:

  • SNVQ (or equivalent) in Commercial Plumbing & Heating and/or Electrical Installation.
  • Valid Driving License.
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in a related field.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems, electrical circuits, and heating principles.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and a methodical approach to diagnostics.
  • Proficient in the use of hand tools and trade-specific equipment.
  • Experience in commercial heating systems, with a background in on-site, hands-on work.
  • Strong technical skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in the Biomass sector.
  • Additional certifications related to heating, plumbing, or electrical disciplines.
  • Qualifications in Oil/Gas Servicing (OFTEC/Gas Safe Modules).
