Opportunity Overview

We are seeking to recruit up to five outstanding health professionals for a prestigious ECAT-i programme at the University of Edinburgh.

The programme involves undertaking a Wellcome PhD for Health Professionals in a world-leading research centre, with combined clinical training and practice in association with NHS Education for Scotland (NES) and NHS Lothian.

Eligibility Criteria
  • Trainees in all GMC-recognised medical and surgical specialties
  • Primary care practitioners
  • Candidates from across the UK
Programme Details

Two types of posts are available: ECAT Clinical Lectureships (with combined clinical training or experience; Wellcome Trust PhD for Health Professionals; and mentorship) and ECAT PhD Fellowships (with Wellcome Trust PhD for Health Professionals and mentorship).

Funding is provided for a preparatory period when selection of supervisors and planning of the PhD project are optimised with the support of the ECAT directors.

Your Skills and Attributes
  • A commitment to a research career and a track record in basic, translational or clinical research
  • A specialty training position with a National Training Number (NTN) in your chosen discipline in the UK
  • GMC registration and clinical practice in the UK
  • Relevant clinical experience in your chosen specialty
  • Eligibility for higher specialist clinical training
Additional Information

Non-UK citizens are welcome to apply, but must be suitable for sponsorship under a Skilled Worker visa.

A Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) check is required.
