The Chronic Fatigue Service for children and adolescents is a pioneering initiative that provides evidence-based interventions tailored to the unique needs of young patients and their families.
We are seeking a committed and passionate part-time Band 7 Cognitive Behavioural Therapist to join our team at Nottingham Children's Hospital. The successful candidate will have the flexibility to work across various settings, including hospitals, community locations, educational institutions, and during home visits. This role presents an exciting opportunity for professionals experienced in supporting young individuals with long-term health issues, such as chronic fatigue syndrome or chronic pain, to become part of our innovative and collaborative team.
This position is ideal for candidates who possess a valid BABCP registration.
Key Responsibilities
As an accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist, you will deliver high-quality, specialized CBT to both individuals and groups in diverse environments, including outpatient clinics, home settings, and schools. A flexible approach to service delivery is crucial.
Your expertise should encompass knowledge of common mental health disorders and an understanding of treatment models for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion-Focused Therapy, and Mindfulness techniques.
Excellent communication skills are essential for providing individual and group interventions in this challenging clinical area, fostering connections across the healthcare and educational sectors. Job Duties
- Conduct specialized assessments and interventions for managing Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, utilizing complex data from various sources.
- Adopt a flexible approach to treatment delivery, both individually and in group settings, employing evidence-based methods for managing Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.
- Proactively engage with patients to promote self-management strategies, empowering them to recognize and optimize their potential outcomes.
- Maintain professional accountability for all aspects of your work, operating autonomously within professional guidelines and the overarching framework of team policies and procedures.
- Develop evidence-based, personalized treatment plans for individuals with complex needs, involving individuals, caregivers, and families in the planning process.
- Communicate effectively and sensitively, establishing strong working relationships with patients, families, and caregivers, providing information and guidance at appropriate stages of the patient journey.
- Collaborate with all professionals involved in patient care to ensure a coordinated multidisciplinary service, addressing complex and sensitive issues related to treatment options and decisions.
- Lead initiatives in service delivery and the development of service resources, contributing to a CBT-based framework of understanding and care for the benefit of all patients.
- Utilize negotiation and motivational skills to influence and support problem-solving and behavior change.
- Engage in regular clinical supervision with a senior CBT-accredited practitioner.
- Develop skills in teaching, training, and supervision, providing guidance to other multidisciplinary team members in their CBT work as appropriate.
- Offer advice, consultation, and training to staff working with the patient group across various agencies and settings as needed.
- Coordinate with colleagues from all specialties regarding patient needs assessment prior to care transfer.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive patient treatment records in accordance with trust policies, departmental standards, and relevant professional body standards.
- Ensure that your actions support equality, diversity, and rights by adhering to Trust policies and ensuring that clinical services are sensitive to individual needs, cultures, beliefs, and values.
- Contribute to training and service enhancements while continuing to develop specific skills relevant to the service area.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
- BSc Hons in a clinical profession.
- Post-graduate Diploma qualification in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
- CBT accreditation with the BABCP, focusing on CBT with children and young adults.
- Evidence of maintaining professional competence through Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
Experience
Essential
- Experience working with a diverse range of child mental health issues across all age groups, demonstrating professionalism in challenging and emotional situations.
- Experience supporting individuals with long-term health conditions, medically unexplained symptoms, and co-occurring anxiety and depression.
- Experience in multidisciplinary team collaboration - a strong team player.
Communication Skills
