We are seeking an Associate to the Founder - Mission Studio

Mission Studio is at the forefront of developing technology startups with a mission-driven focus. Our aim is to address some of the most pressing social issues in the UK, such as achieving net zero and combating obesity, by establishing commercially viable enterprises that tackle these challenges. As we transition from a partnership model to an in-house operation, we are excited to build a vibrant team and embark on a new growth journey.

We are in search of a proactive and exceptionally organised Associate to the Founder who will collaborate closely with our senior leadership team to drive the growth and success of Mission Studio. This position is vital for facilitating the daily operations of the studio, coordinating team initiatives, serving as a natural liaison among the Studio team, Nesta, and external stakeholders, and aiding in the design, development, and management of our startup portfolio.

Who You Are:

  • A proactive problem solver, adaptable and always ready to embrace new challenges.
  • A versatile generalist who enjoys taking on diverse responsibilities in a venture studio setting.
  • Highly organised, capable of managing and prioritising multiple projects and deadlines efficiently.
  • Excellent communicator, both in writing and verbally, with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Self-driven and able to work independently while also being a collaborative team member.
  • Passionate about entrepreneurship and eager to contribute to the success of innovative startups that make a positive impact.
  • Ideally, you have 1-3 years of experience in a startup or fast-paced environment, though this is not mandatory.

What You'll Do:

  • Studio Operations Support:
    Organise and coordinate team meetings and workshops, including scheduling, preparing agendas, and documenting minutes. Provide administrative assistance to studio team members as needed. Plan team events, workshops, and off-site gatherings to foster a positive culture.
  • Startup Development Support:
    Conduct thorough research on relevant topics (e.g., obesity, household decarbonisation, early years education) and track emerging trends to guide new startup initiatives. Assist in organising and facilitating interviews with customers, experts, and investors to gather insights for solution development and validation.
  • Startup Portfolio Management:
    Aid in the collection and analysis of data and KPIs regarding Mission Studio's startup portfolio to provide leadership with updates on progress, impact, and risks. Participate in meetings with startup founders and assist with follow-up actions.
  • Communication and Network Building:
    Help maintain effective communication channels within the studio, with founders, and with our broader ecosystem of external stakeholders. Assist in creating and distributing studio newsletters, engaging content, internal updates, and other communication materials. Support the planning and execution of studio events, workshops, and networking activities to enhance founder recruitment and build a strong community around our startups. Engage in targeted recruitment and relationship-building efforts to identify potential founders, aligning with our equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) goals. Develop and maintain relationships with key partners, industry experts, and potential investors to expand the studio's network and support the management of our CRM system.
  • Additional Responsibilities:
    Contribute to the development, implementation, and enhancement of studio processes. Take on special projects and other tasks as necessary to support the overall success of the studio and its startups, such as further developing Mission Studio's EDI strategy or writing investment memos for upcoming spin-outs.
