Job Description

Job Title: Principal Structural Engineer

Location: We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements.

Salary: Circa £50,000 – depending on skills and experience

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Structural Engineer to join our Dynamics team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for performing complex simulation and analysis of structures and mounting systems subjected to high acceleration levels during naval shock events.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform simulation and analysis of structures and equipment subjected to dynamic loading
  • Provide structural design guidance at design reviews with respect to naval shock load cases
  • Follow internal procedures and develop evidence of compliance through written calculations and reports
  • Undertake peer review checking activities to approve methods and calculations
  • Lead and support the identification and rapid closure of issues emerging from all product lifecycle stages
  • Lead technical development and research activities, methods and acceptance criterion, liaising with industrial partners and external customers as necessary
  • Provide realistic programme status, identify problem areas and implement agreed recovery plans
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers within the team

Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Mechanical Engineering Degree (or related STEM degree)
  • Understanding of the principles of structural mechanics and dynamics
  • Understanding of material strength properties (elastic and plastic properties)
  • Experience in using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software

Desirable Skills:

  • Knowledge of MatLab, MathCad and Python
  • Abaqus FEA software knowledge or a willingness to learn
