Role Overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic team leader to oversee our Planning Applications Team.
In collaboration with the Planning Manager, you will manage personnel and resources, playing a vital role in delivering a high-quality planning service that is proactive, constructive, and customer-oriented.
Your responsibilities will include handling a complex portfolio of planning applications and pre-application inquiries, monitoring development approvals and permissions, and providing expert advice to homeowners, agents, developers, and landowners, including engaging in Section 106 negotiations.
You will also be responsible for preparing and presenting the Council's position at appeals, inquiries, hearings, injunctions, court hearings, and examinations in public. Additionally, you will develop planning policies and strategies and contribute to the formulation and execution of corporate and service strategies.
Qualifications and Skills
The ideal candidate will possess a Level 6/7 Planning qualification and be a chartered member of the Royal Town Planning Institute.
You should have a comprehensive understanding of various types of planning applications, along with a solid grasp of the Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations. Your ability to inspire colleagues to consider diverse perspectives in their work will be essential.
A proven track record of providing sound professional advice and fostering successful working relationships with ward members, colleagues, and customers is crucial.
Strong communication skills with stakeholders, Parish Councils, and users of the service are necessary to achieve corporate objectives.
Independent travel around the Borough is a requirement.
