Job Summary:
We are looking for an enthusiastic Apprentice or Graduate to join our Gas Laboratory team.
In this role, you will be engaged in the testing and calibration of gas detection equipment. While prior experience with Spectrophotometry is a plus, it is not a requirement. You will work with various instruments, including pressure sensors, flow meters, gas mixing pumps, and temperature sensors, and will be responsible for their internal calibration.
Familiarity with compressed gases, regulators, and gas cylinders is advantageous, and any hands-on experience will be beneficial. Knowledge of gas chromatography is also a plus, but not mandatory.
The ideal candidate will possess or be pursuing a qualification such as a BTEC in a scientific discipline, such as Chemistry or Physics.
You will conduct a variety of testing procedures independently, accurately gather and document data, interpret results, and participate in research and development projects. Your responsibilities will include assembling and disassembling test samples, troubleshooting equipment malfunctions, and maintaining direct communication with clients to provide and gather information. You will also offer feedback to your supervisor regarding any suggested improvements to experimental setups and equipment.

Take full responsibility for completing assigned projects within agreed timelines and budgets. Execute a range of testing procedures on sample equipment, interpreting results according to applicable standards. Collaborate with the Certifier to determine necessary tests and the order of execution. Compile data and summarize findings into reports and checklists. Prepare laboratory test equipment for testing and operate it independently. Document technical data, draft reports, and write product descriptions. Perform calculations to summarize test results and relate them to product specifications. Identify and document any substandard features of products during testing and report them to the appropriate personnel. Maintain cleanliness and organization of tools, equipment, and work areas post-testing. Follow up on any non-conformances identified during calibration, with guidance from your supervisor. Ensure the integrity of customer samples while in the laboratory. Engage with the Certifier and clients to plan activities, exchange information, and review lab reports. May assist with fieldwork and other duties as assigned. Manage paperwork related to projects where engineering is not involved, as required.Work Environment
May involve lifting and moving heavy equipment in accordance with safety regulations. Willingness to travel as necessary. Requires concentration when working with electricity and compressed gases. Utilize sensory skills to assess testing results while being aware of potential hazards.Preferred Education & Experience
Qualification in Chemistry or Environmental Science. Practical experience with testing and measurement instruments, such as oscilloscopes and multi-meters. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and test data. Knowledge of laboratory instrumentation and general laboratory procedures. Strong organizational and time management skills.
