About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Ecologist to join our team at FPCR Environment and Design Ltd. As a Senior or Principal Ecologist, you will be responsible for leading and delivering high-quality ecological work and assessments for a range of clients and projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage projects throughout their lifecycle, providing advice on ecology and biodiversity to clients, stakeholders, and project teams.
  • Plan, lead, and conduct ecological surveys, including environmental impact assessments and biodiversity net gain assessments.
  • Undertake ecological reports and strategies, designing and implementing mitigation measures to enhance biodiversity and protect ecological features.
  • Support and mentor junior staff, sharing your knowledge and expertise to develop their skills and professional judgment.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, as well as with contractors and regulatory bodies.
Requirements
  • Degree-level or higher in Ecology or a related field.
  • At least 45 years of working experience in ecological consultancy, with proven experience in project management, including for medium to large-scale and complex sites.
  • Experience in advising clients on Biodiversity Net Gain, understanding and use of the DEFRA Statutory Biodiversity Metric, and production of associated reports and plans.
  • Demonstrable experience in complex report writing, including Preliminary Ecological Appraisal (PEA) reports, Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA), and Habitats Regulations Assessment (HRA) documents.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Advanced knowledge of ecology and wildlife protection in the context of the UK legislative and planning system.
  • Membership or eligibility to membership of a relevant professional body, such as the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM).
  • A full UK driving license and access to a vehicle.
