About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head of Software Development to lead our software development team and drive the development of our smart transport solutions. As a key member of our senior management team, you will be responsible for leading and managing the team, as well as undertaking some development tasks yourself.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the software development team, including regular weekly catchups, performance reviews, and holiday/absence planning.
  • Oversee the combined development of the iConnex software product, which comprises a Laravel web-based frontend and backend, and embedded software for real-time devices.
  • Input into the design and planning of the iConnex software and related products.
  • Input into the selection of new technologies and identification of technology areas that can be brought into the system.
  • Ensure company adherence to technology and industry standards.
  • Manage the software development process, including organizing regular scrums, code reviews, and managing the scrum board.
  • Define and improve the overall development process, including developing in-house approaches to unit and integration testing.
  • Oversee system documentation and contribute to the company product roadmap.
  • Coordinate project deliverables, timescales, and monitor project progress with the Delivery & Support Director.
  • Regularly report on development progress to the management team.
Requirements
  • 10+ years of software development experience.
  • 5+ years of previous software development team management/leading experience.
  • Technical skills in PHP 8+, Laravel 8+, Vue 2/3, Agile/Scrum/Jira, Linux, git, mariadb/mysql, and Docker.
  • Desirable skills in Jenkins, Redis, MQTT, Apache Webserver, Elasticsearch, Networking, nodejs, MongoDB, and Ansible.
