Job Summary

Bruker's Semiconductor Division is seeking an experienced Applications Scientist to support our X-ray activities, primarily in HRXRD, XRD, XRR, and XRDI. As a key member of our Applications team, you will be responsible for providing expert technical support to customers, enabling them to assess the potential applications of our X-ray products to meet their process metrology needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert technical resource within the Applications team and to customers, particularly through demonstrations of product capabilities, sales presentations, customer training, and support.
  • Enable customers to assess potential applications of company products to meet process metrology needs via the demo process, presentations, and discussions.
  • Work with customers from before the sale, through demonstration measurements, delivery, and installation to expert user support for applications.
  • Set suitable product specifications and ensure that the product application/solution meets them, including source inspection of the tools prior to shipment and following installation.
  • Develop and disseminate Best Known Methods.
  • Lead applications support to the core technology, engineering, and production teams in qualification of new technologies, algorithms, methodologies, software, and hardware features.
  • Support Product Managers in preparing detailed product specifications for the development and implementation of customer applications/solutions.
  • Feed back customer requirements and interests for hardware and software development.
  • Provide expert follow-up support to company sales staff and customer service personnel by disseminating technical information on specific applications.

Requirements

  • Degree in physics, chemistry, material science, or engineering (PhD or other higher degree plus a minimum of five years post-doctoral experience, or equivalent, preferred).
  • Fluent in English with several years' experience in technical communication (writing, presenting, discussing, listening).
  • Good knowledge of basic crystallography/crystal structure is essential.
  • Knowledge of thermodynamics, kinetics, diffusion, etc.; experience/understanding of deposited electronic layers is an advantage.
  • Significant experience of metrology and characterisation techniques (hands-on work and results analysis).
  • Experience in X-ray materials characterisation techniques is a distinct advantage.
  • Significant experience with problem analysis and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Experience of working in the semiconductor industry and in a fab is a distinct advantage.
  • Experience of metrology tool-matching is an advantage.
