Neonatal Nurse Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Neonatal Nurse Specialist to join our team at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our neonatal care team, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care to our patients and their families.
Job Summary:The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a group of assigned patients, recognizing situations that may be detrimental to the health and well-being of the neonate and taking appropriate action. You will also be responsible for planning, assessing, implementing, and evaluating nursing care for neonates, coordinating patient care, and starting planning for discharge from admission by liaising with the multi-disciplinary team and neonatal outreach.
Key Responsibilities:- Manage a group of assigned patients, recognizing situations that may be detrimental to the health and well-being of the neonate and taking appropriate action.
- Plan, assess, implement, and evaluate nursing care for neonates, coordinating patient care, and starting planning for discharge from admission by liaising with the multi-disciplinary team and neonatal outreach.
- Provide information and support for families, liaising with relevant support services as appropriate.
- Ensure there is a high standard of documentation, which is accurate, legible, and meets all legal requirements.
- Able to set up, use, and maintain all equipment used on patients within the ward and attend training as necessary.
- Able to administer intravenous therapy safely.
- Maintain a safe, friendly, and welcoming ward environment for families, visitors, and staff and where family-centered care is practiced.
- Ensure clinical practice is research-based, contribute to the implementation of practice enhancements, seeking support and guidance, and take personal responsibility to develop an awareness of local, regional, and national objectives, policies, and political agenda.
- Work within the Code of Professional Conduct and all other NMC directives.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Registered Nurse or Midwife qualification.
- Neonatal Pathway Holder.
- NLS.
Desirable qualifications include:
- Mentorship module or 998.
The successful candidate will have:
- Substantial months post QIS.
- Proven skills and knowledge in clinical practice.
Desirable experience includes:
- Knowledge of high-frequency oscillation and Nitric Oxide Therapy.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Demonstrates leadership skills.
- Ability to mentor others.
- Ability to work under own initiative.
Desirable skills include:
- Ability to work under pressure.
The successful candidate will have:
- Evidence of working within a multidisciplinary team.
Desirable skills include:
- Experience of Family Integrated Care.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Evidence of having championed diversity in previous roles (as appropriate to role).
- Evidence of having undertaken own development to improve understanding of equalities issues.
