Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our team in the West Midlands. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for the management of the design of high integrity automation solutions, incorporating structures, hoists, mechanisms and drive systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the design of high integrity automation solutions, incorporating structures, hoists, mechanisms and drive systems.
  • Produce supporting design calculations and ensure compliance with relevant codes and legislation.
  • Conduct site equipment surveys and interpret Design Input Requirements into fit for purpose solutions.
  • Define and verify fit for purpose calculations and deliver projects within allocated budgeted cost and timescales.
  • Manage and supervise a team of engineers, ensuring the production of high-quality design deliverables.
  • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines and implement UK H&S legislation and appropriate design standards.
  • Produce key technical documentation, including Technical files, O&M Manuals, Spares Lists, Test Documentation, etc.
  • Initiate and implement Design Change Control and Contract variation identification.
  • Develop Technical Specifications for bespoke high integrity in-cell and out-cell cranes/handling equipment.
  • Conduct feasibility studies associated with existing site cranes/mechanical handling equipment life extension/refurbishment.
  • Develop alternative options studies, addressing engineered solutions.
  • Provide technical support for safety case submissions/compliance.
  • Prepare tender technical estimates, scope, budget and program.
Requirements

We are looking for a degree-qualified, ideally chartered, Principal Mechanical Engineer with experience in nuclear decommissioning, pressure systems, remote handling equipment, lifting, process plant or heavy engineering plant.

This is a hybrid role, with 3 days office work. The position is available for contractors inside IR35, with a 1-year duration and competitive rates paid.
