About the Role

The University of York is seeking a skilled Laboratory Technician to join our BioArCh facility within the Department of Archaeology. As a key member of our research team, you will contribute to the continuous operation of our laboratory facilities, preparing archaeological samples for scientific analysis and assisting with training students and facilitating their projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and facilities
  • Prepare and analyze archaeological samples for scientific analysis
  • Assist with training students and facilitating their projects
  • Maintain laboratory inventory, administer sample database and storage, and manage goods in/out
  • Carry out health and safety duties, including COSHH and risk assessments

Requirements

  • Relevant A levels or HNC qualification
  • Desirable: undergraduate degree in a relevant field (e.g. biology, archaeology, chemistry)
  • Experience working in a laboratory setting and applying health and safety procedures
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
