About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Graduate LAB Scientist to join our team at National Nuclear Laboratory. As a Graduate LAB Scientist, you will play a key role in providing hands-on technical leadership to further develop our Engineering Modelling capability and provide strategic direction to support the future civil nuclear power industry.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop a new customer base to bring in new opportunities for the team.
  • Support the Capability Manager in shaping the future strategic plans aligned to the rapidly developing UK Nuclear landscape.
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership and direction to support project teams in delivering successful outcomes.
  • Ensure all projects comply with the team's robust Quality Assurance standards.
  • Manage your own workload and deliver high standards of technical work to time, cost, and quality.
  • Check and authorise technical projects for the team.
Requirements
  • Demonstrable experience in technically leading teams while successfully delivering multiple projects within the nuclear industry or related transferrable industry.
  • Technical breadth and depth of knowledge in the field of Structural Integrity (linear and non-linear static and dynamic assessments) and Heat Transfer.
  • Experience with IAEA Transport Regulations.
  • Expertise in using commercial modelling tools such as Ansys Mechanical, Ansys APDL, and LS-Dyna.
  • Expertise in using programming tools such as Python, MATLAB, and Mathcad.
  • Experience of developing and delivering strategic training plans to enhance the capability function.
  • Extensive experience in applying design code requirements to verify mechanical structures subject to finite element analysis.
  • Ability to obtain SC level security clearance.
