Role Overview:
The retail operations at AGS airports predominantly function on a concession model, where the airport earns a percentage of the retailer's sales as 'rent'. It is essential for airports and retailers to collaborate closely to identify the factors influencing performance and to create joint action plans for enhancement and evolution. The Retail Operations Performance Lead will play a crucial role within the Southampton Airport leadership team and the broader AGS Commercial team. Reporting directly to the Head of Retail Operations and Performance, this position will oversee trading performance, operational standards, and management of third-party retail and food and beverage units.
With anticipated rapid passenger growth and a shift from a business to a leisure passenger profile, Southampton Airport is poised for exciting developments. Strategic plans are underway to ensure commercial success and operational excellence align with the increasing passenger numbers and evolving demographics. This role is essential in executing our growth strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the primary contact for all retail sectors at Southampton Airport
- Oversee retail, food and beverage, and vending operations
- Manage communication of business updates to partners, ensuring all stakeholders have the necessary information to optimize service and sales
- Foster a 'culture of transparency' by collaborating with retailers and other stakeholders to share business and trading updates
- Maximize income generation from all airport retail categories through data analysis and stakeholder engagement
- Develop expertise in retail categories, including trends, dynamics, and growth drivers, alongside in-depth customer insights
- Ensure operational excellence and superior customer service across all retail operations through effective contract management and continuous improvement
- Enhance commercial awareness across the airport by advising senior leadership on retail-related matters and opportunities
- Drive profitability from managed contracts by scrutinizing costs and implementing sales action plans
- Define the retail marketing strategy in collaboration with the AGS marketing team, ensuring retailer and advertising client participation
- Encourage commercial partners to adopt safe and secure practices in line with airport health and safety objectives through regular audits
- Promote sustainable operational practices in alignment with AGS's targets
- As a key member of the Southampton Airport leadership team, contribute to crisis management efforts during emergencies
Qualifications and Experience:
- Demonstrated success in a retail or commercial role, preferably within an airport or similar environment
- Strong commercial insight and advanced analytical/financial acumen
- Well-developed influencing and negotiation skills
- Effective communication abilities across all organizational levels
- Customer-oriented with a proven track record of developing compelling customer propositions
- Evidence of innovation and entrepreneurial spirit, with the capability to rigorously test and implement new ideas
- Proficient in building strong relationships both internally and externally
