Job Overview

Position Summary

The primary responsibilities of this role include:

Ensuring the quality and timely execution of scheduled preventative maintenance tasks, troubleshooting, repair of breakdowns, and installation of mechanical systems within an industrial setting.

Collaborating with the team leader to fulfill administrative and safety obligations associated with engineering maintenance.

Key Responsibilities

Health and Safety

Adhere to established safe working practices, procedures, and legal regulations.

Keep updated on mechanical regulations and guidelines.

Maintain a clean work environment and ensure appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE) for all tasks.

Engage in safety inspections and risk assessments related to maintenance operations and equipment usage.

Participate in necessary training sessions mandated by the organization or regulatory bodies to effectively carry out all responsibilities.

Report any incidents or hazards promptly.

Execute and verify isolation and lockout procedures for hazardous machinery in compliance with site protocols.

Issue Work Permits, once adequately trained, and manage activities according to company and legal standards.

Organize your workload effectively, complete tasks promptly, and be aware of subsequent tasks.

Perform scheduled preventative maintenance activities in accordance with agreed timelines.

Conduct repairs to minimize unplanned downtime and maximize equipment availability.

Inspect mechanical systems and components to identify hazards, defects, and necessary adjustments or repairs, ensuring compliance with known standards.

Diagnose faults using testing equipment and hand tools to determine the cause of breakdowns and implement corrective actions.

Carry out installation, modifications, and decommissioning tasks as required.

Test mechanical systems and pneumatic/hydraulic equipment to ensure compatibility and safety.

Utilize various tools and equipment, including access and lifting devices, power tools, measuring instruments, and work in confined spaces.

Operate site service equipment such as boilers and compressors.

Operate forklifts and mobile platforms if properly trained and licensed.

Record spare parts usage from engineering stores.

Communicate maintenance issues to equipment users and owners.

Qualifications

Experience Required

A minimum of 2 years' experience in a maintenance or industrial environment.

Knowledge Required

Familiarity with a diverse range of industrial machinery, including mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic control systems.

Understanding of site safety systems, including permit-to-work procedures and isolation methods.

Qualifications / Skills Required

Completion of an apprenticeship with a City and Guilds Level 3 Certificate or equivalent in a Mechanical discipline.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.
