Position Overview

As a specialist in energy storage and power installations, you will play a crucial role in the engineering development and deployment of our battery energy storage systems. Your primary responsibility will be to oversee the legislative and compliance processes, ensuring that our systems and installations adhere to all relevant global regulations, including grid connection standards (G99/G100 and their equivalents).

In this role, you will collaborate with both internal teams and external stakeholders to devise solutions that align with our mission of promoting cleaner, affordable energy. You will cultivate relationships with Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) and, ideally, with regulatory authorities to influence the evolving standards for regulatory approvals in a rapidly changing industry. We seek individuals who are detail-oriented and committed to establishing high standards for compliance and quality.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure all designs comply with international legislation and grid codes.
  • Stay updated on battery energy storage regulations and standards.
  • Draft specifications and select components based on project requirements.
  • Assist engineering and installation teams to achieve compliance.
  • Define testing requirements and develop test plans for certification and grid compliance.
  • Understand international standards (ISO, UN, etc.) and customer-driven requirements (Network Operators, Utility industry).
  • Select primary electrical components to meet all grid-related criteria.
  • Create comprehensive technical and project management documentation (requirements, specifications, test plans, test reports).
  • Coordinate with power electronics suppliers to ensure compliance with G99.
  • Engage with certification bodies and testing facilities for documentation and execution of tests.
  • Build proactive relationships with DNO representatives regarding connection processes.
  • Support continuous product and process enhancements.
  • Assist engineering teams in designing for Functional Safety.
  • Collaborate with software teams to define grid-related functions and services.
  • Develop guidelines and templates for engineers to ensure high-quality product development for serial production.
Qualifications

Essential Educational Background and Experience:
  • Experience in battery energy storage for both off-grid and on-grid applications, including domestic, commercial, and grid-scale projects.
  • Strong relationships with the DNO network.
  • Solid understanding of industrial and commercial electrical systems.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the G99 application process with proven successful examples.
  • In-depth understanding of electrical regulations and testing/certification processes.
  • Experience in preparing quotations for electrical installation projects.
  • Proficient in computer usage with an understanding of software and hardware integration.
  • Able to produce and interpret wiring diagrams.
  • Familiarity with control systems for both AC and DC applications.
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical systems and assembly.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK.
Desirable Qualifications:
  • Experience in automotive engineering, particularly with electric vehicles.
  • Project management experience.
  • Strong understanding of DNO engineering requirements for new network connections.
  • Familiarity with CAD software or other electrical design tools.
  • IOSH or NEBOSH certification.
  • Degree in electrical power engineering.
  • Qualifications in EV charging or solar installation.
  • Understanding of IT networking.
