Position Overview

The Sterilization Services Department is seeking a dedicated, proactive, and adaptable individual to become part of the James Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust team. This role of Supervisor presents an excellent opportunity to engage with a well-established and supportive group.

The Supervisor for Sterilization Services will possess comprehensive knowledge and expertise regarding product requirements in accordance with the ISO 13485:2016 standard. Additionally, they will be aware of all potential risks associated with products in a Sterilization environment. The successful candidate will assist the management team in ensuring that staff adhere to the departmental Quality Management System, hospital policies, and procedures, promptly addressing any areas of concern.

The individual in this role will be accountable for evaluating, organizing, and planning the daily operations within the Sterilization and Endoscopy departments to optimize resource utilization.

They will serve as a resource to aid technicians in minimizing departmental and individual non-conformances, conducting regular one-on-one meetings with staff, and providing constructive feedback to the Deputy Manager of Sterilization Services.

The Supervisor will be expected to act on behalf of the Deputy Manager in their absence, with the support of the Sterilization Manager.

To fulfill this role, the Supervisor must be capable of identifying root causes and reporting incidents related to products and personnel.

Ensuring the effective and efficient functioning of the department is paramount.

Main Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage the production team.
  • Assess, plan, organize, and manage personal and team workloads to ensure optimal resource utilization daily.
  • Supervise and coordinate staff activities within the department.
  • Facilitate effective communication by providing and receiving complex information with both departmental staff and clients.
  • Support technicians in their ongoing development through regular performance reviews and annual appraisals.
  • Address day-to-day issues and inquiries from clients, assisting the Deputy Manager with more complex complaint investigations, ensuring timely completion of delegated actions.
  • Act in the capacity of the Deputy Manager during their absence, with the support of the Sterilization Manager.
  • Communicate departmental progress against established targets, changes in activities affecting production levels, quality concerns, and general updates to the production team.

  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment, adhering to legislation and departmental/Trust policies.
  • Restock production areas while keeping accurate records and ensuring stock rotation.
  • Maintain competency in using specialized equipment relevant to the clinical setting.

  • Ensure the tracking and traceability program operates correctly, troubleshooting issues as trained or reporting to management.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Four GCSEs at grade D or above, including Mathematics and English, or equivalent qualifications.
  • Prior experience in supervising teams within sterilization services.

Knowledge & Experience

  • Experience supervising teams in sterilization services.
