Overview

As a seasoned Senior Psychiatric Consultant, you will possess extensive expertise in supporting individuals who have experienced acquired brain injuries, those with neurodegenerative disorders, and patients facing complex mental health and physical health challenges. The patients within the facility may be admitted under the Mental Health Act, supported through Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards, or may be treated informally. Referrals are accepted from various sources, including psychiatric institutions, correctional facilities, and judicial systems.

This position offers a remarkable chance to join two well-established Neurological Services, each comprising dedicated teams of professionals. Your commitment will involve 7.5 hours weekly at one location and 30 hours weekly at another.

The working environment is characterized by a rich history and serene surroundings, providing excellent facilities and easy access via major roadways, making it conveniently reachable from surrounding areas.

As a key member of the team, you will lead efforts to deliver high-quality care, conduct assessments of referrals, participate in Care and Treatment Reviews, and attend relevant hearings and tribunals. You will also be responsible for providing regular supervision to junior team members.

You will collaborate with a group of Consultant Psychiatrists, sharing on-call responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the administration of the Mental Health Act, Clinical Policies, and associated administrative duties concerning service users.
  • Manage and assess the medical services through audits, ensuring that clinical policies and practices are evidence-based and of superior quality.
  • Collaborate with external stakeholders to facilitate the service users' reintegration into the community.
  • Lead multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • Ensure the effective implementation of the Care Programme Approach for service users.
  • Participate in the assessment of referrals to ensure the service meets the needs of appropriately admitted individuals.
  • Contribute to the training and development of staff across various disciplines.
  • Engage in delivering Clinical Governance.

Qualifications:

  • Medical qualification with MRCPsych or equivalent.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Innovative and proactive with the ability to drive organizational decisions.
  • Proven leadership capabilities.
  • Ability to effect professional and organizational change.
  • Awareness of current trends in psychiatry and mental health.
  • Knowledge of change management and relevant legislation.
  • Previous experience as a consultant (preferred).
  • Management experience (preferred).
