Position Overview
The North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a proactive and skilled Locum Consultant in Gastroenterology to enhance our integrated digestive health services across the region. Our Gastrointestinal Service is a newly established, cohesive department that merges gastroenterology and endoscopy services, including upper gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, colorectal, and emergency GI surgery.
Role Responsibilities
The successful candidate will collaborate with a dedicated team of gastroenterologists and specialized nurse practitioners in IBD and hepatology. The ongoing transformation of our services aims to centralize complex inpatient care while ensuring that elective outpatient services, such as endoscopy and outpatient clinics, are accessible throughout the Trust. We encourage subspecialty interests that align with departmental and organizational needs.
All team members will be expected to contribute to the comprehensive gastroenterology services provided across the Trust, even though each appointee will have a designated base unit.
Main Duties
The department features two specialized GI wards within the Cumberland Infirmary for inpatient care. Plans are underway to co-locate all GI services. We have a dedicated three-room endoscopy unit at the Cumberland Infirmary, along with a state-of-the-art facility at West Cumberland Hospital, which includes two dedicated endoscopy rooms. Additionally, both sites are equipped with specialized GI physiology laboratories.
The Trust has recently secured funding for a new five-room Endoscopy Unit, set to open in the near future at the Cumberland Infirmary.

Job Requirements
The on-call duties will include Out of Hours GI Bleed coverage. The standard job plan comprises 10-12 Programmed Activities (PAs).
Relocation assistance of up to £4,000 may be available for successful candidates relocating to the area.
This position offers a discretionary recruitment premium of up to 10% of the basic salary per annum, which is pensionable and subject to annual review by the Trust.
