Role Objective
The primary aim of this position is to assist young individuals with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) in navigating their work placements and facilitating successful transitions into gainful employment.
This role involves providing training and guidance to business partners and families to ensure effective support during workplace experiences and to actively seek job opportunities both within and beyond the host organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver tailored support for interns at their respective work placements, which encompasses job coaching, identifying suitable job opportunities, and utilizing assistive technology.
- Participate in the host organization’s orientation to ensure interns comprehend their roles and responsibilities.
- Collaborate with management and colleagues to promote awareness and understanding of disabilities.
- Maintain regular communication with families to provide updates and feedback.
- Conduct site visits to assess intern progress and relay insights to the team.
- Engage in daily discussions with tutors to monitor and evaluate student development.
- Coordinate with business liaisons, managers, and peer mentors to address student strengths, challenges, and overall progress.
- Assist tutors in organizing events such as orientations, information sessions, and graduations.
- Work alongside team members to enhance internal and external marketing efforts, including newsletters, website content, community presentations, and social media outreach.
- Ensure effective communication with tutors, fellow job coaches, senior practitioners, employers, and other stakeholders regarding student training.
- Implement the job coaching plan in collaboration with students and relevant parties.
- Collaborate with employers, families, and educational personnel to resolve training and employment-related issues.
- Provide training in essential skills such as grooming, hygiene, communication, interviewing, and workplace behavior.
- Facilitate travel training to job sites as needed.
- Consult with tutors to make informed decisions regarding factors affecting student success at work placements.
- Engage in collaborative decision-making to identify and implement effective training strategies and services.
- Adhere to and promote the standards of the host organization to enhance productivity and efficiency.
- Complete necessary job coaching documentation accurately.
- Assist students in applying for relevant financial support.
- Offer basic information regarding benefits and work-related expenses.
- Recognize and act upon legal responsibilities concerning the safety and welfare of students.
- Stay informed about current trends and initiatives in education.
- Contribute as a team member to ensure the educational and welfare needs of all students are met.
- Understand each student's learning difficulties and social/emotional needs, taking appropriate steps to address them.
- Facilitate access to engaging learning environments both in and out of the workplace.
- Utilize a variety of support methods and resources tailored to the needs of students.
- Be prepared to undertake relevant training programs, such as first aid, if necessary.
Candidate Profile
- Possess an NVQ Level 6 or equivalent qualification in Careers Education and Guidance, Youth and Community Work, or Social Care (or be willing to pursue this qualification).
- Hold a Level 3 Education and Training Award (or be willing to work towards it).
- Exhibit strong communication skills, both verbal and written, and proficiency in various IT tools, engaging effectively with a diverse audience including senior managers, professionals, young people, and families.
- Demonstrate an entrepreneurial spirit and the ability to implement innovative practices that enhance service delivery and outcomes for young individuals.
- Showcase strong leadership and management capabilities.
- Have experience in fostering a positive team culture.
- Possess the ability to cultivate and maintain effective relationships with key organizations.
- Exhibit strong organizational skills and the ability to manage personal workload efficiently.
- Have a proven track record of achieving contract KPIs and positive outcomes for young people.
- Demonstrate the ability to create strong partnerships with other organizations.
- Have experience in developing new services for young individuals.
- Show a history of securing additional funding or contracts.
- Exhibit a professional demeanor that instills credibility and confidence among clients, managers, staff, and external partners.
- Possess knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and guidelines pertaining to Children and Young People's Services and SEND.
