Job Title: DB2 Systems Programmer

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled DB2 Systems Programmer to join our team. As a DB2 Systems Programmer, you will be responsible for ensuring the performance, integrity, maintenance, and security of our database estate in the UK.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install and test new versions of DB2
  • Provide 2nd and 3rd Level Support for applications that use DB2
  • Ensure support and management of distributed DB2 connections
  • Ensure stability and integrity of a highly responsive OLTP (CICS) DB2 environment
  • Establish the needs of users and monitor user access and security
  • Monitor performance and manage parameters in order to provide fast responses to front-end users
  • Develop, manage, and test back-up and recovery plans
  • Ensure that storage and archiving procedures are functioning correctly
  • Carry out capacity planning
  • Communicate regularly with technical, applications, and operational staff to ensure database integrity and security
  • Manage the security and disaster recovery aspects of a database
  • Ensure there is provision for data security and recovery control (ensuring all data is retrievable in an emergency)
  • Ensure that we use supported versions for all database and monitoring solutions

Requirements:

  • Extensive professional experience in DB2 for administration and systems programming support
  • Experience working with CA and IBM tools for DB2
  • Prior experience of DB2 configuration and management in a parallel sysplex environment
  • Experience reviewing new versions of DB2 for functionality, advising how they could be beneficial to be put into production
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to work as part of a team, as well as independently
