Overview

An exciting opportunity has emerged for a Project Engineer to become a vital part of our rail division at Galldris Services Ltd. The ideal candidate will possess a background in Construction or Civil Engineering, complemented by relevant experience in the rail sector.

Key Responsibilities

The Project Engineer will oversee the engineering aspects of a designated project or work section, ensuring that all activities are executed in accordance with the contract specifications, drawings, and established procedures. This role includes the management of site and junior engineers.

Key duties include:

  • Establishing and implementing site systems and controls that align with company standards and project requirements, including health, safety, quality systems, and engineering standards.
  • Producing Risk Assessment Method Statements (RAMS) and Task Briefing Sheets (TBS), effectively communicating these to the workforce and monitoring adherence.
  • Reviewing Permits issued by the Principal Contractor to ensure timely receipt for project progression.
  • Creating a weekly project schedule and measuring progress against established targets.
Design Management

Understanding design drawings, specifications, and setting out requirements is crucial to ensure accurate construction. Responsibilities include:

  • Identifying temporary works requirements in collaboration with the Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC), producing design briefs, and effectively communicating temporary works designs to the site team while monitoring installation for compliance.
  • Highlighting issues and raising queries based on drawing reviews and site inspections, including sketching where necessary.
Quality Assurance

Maintaining a thorough filing system of quality records is essential. Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting precise setting out duties on-site using appropriate surveying equipment.
  • Managing Site Engineers to ensure timely and accurate setting out and surveying, as well as overseeing the collation of as-built information.
  • Supporting the Project Manager and Commercial team in maintaining records and diaries, understanding cost forecasts, and documenting changes.
  • Managing material reconciliations and ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures.
Qualifications and Skills

The successful candidate will have:

  • A degree or HNC in Civil Engineering or an equivalent qualification.
  • Experience in Civil Engineering with a solid technical foundation.
  • Experience working within the rail environment.
  • A strong understanding of specifications and testing regimes relevant to general civil engineering and highway works.
  • Advanced computer literacy.
Certifications

Desirable certifications include:

  • IOSH Managing Safely or SMSTS.
  • CSCS.
  • PTS.
